The Human Pin Cushion
Well, today I went back to the doctor to get my blood test redone since they couldn't get any blood out last time. I drank a ton of fluid. I thought for sure it would help, but it didn't. They got the vein, but it wouldn't give them any blood. So, they went for another. On the fourth time, and after consulting with a second nurse, they finally got one. I was beginning to think that I was really dead and no one was telling me - like a weird Twilight Zone or something! I didn't even bleed when they pulled the needle out, which I thought was weird. It makes me wonder what is going on with my system. Anyway, now we wait. In one week I should know if it is truly whooping cough. I'm almost hoping it is just so I have an answer......because if it isn't, then we start all over again! I can deal with the cough if at least I know what it is.

Sick of Being Sick!
I am really tired of being sick all the time! I went to the doctor today for my 2 week followup, and I am still coughing up a storm! She said she thought that I might have whooping cough. They tried to do a blood test, but they couldn't get blood out of my arm.........and then I passed out from feeling crappy! So, they gave up. I have to drink a ton of water and go back tomorrow sometime.
Anyway, she said I was fine to go to work and that I wasn't really contagious--all the kids have the DTAP vaccine. And, Richard hasn't gotten it. I already did the round of antibiotics/medicine that is supposed to shorten it, though she didn't know I had it at the time - she prescribed it for something else. So, I went to work, sat in my office, tried not to faint anymore, and somehow made it through the day. Needless to say, I left after the bell, came home, went straight to sleep, and slept until dinner. I am just sick of being sick!!!! Maybe she'll write me a prescription for a long vacation somewhere sunny so I can breathe good fresh air and get well----wouldn't that be nice!?!??

Another Tooth!
Jonathan lost ANOTHER tooth today! That makes 5 now! He is currently without either of his top teeth, so he looks just like a typical first grader! It is really cute!

Dog Gone It!
Well, Holly got away today.........again! This makes 4 or 5 times now. I've really lost track. Richard and Alyssa were going to walk her, and she got out of her harness - yes, a HARNESS! We really should rename her Houdini! She ran all over the neighborhood - up and down the cross street mostly where a lot of kids were playing. Richard, Alyssa, and I chased her in the van and enticed her with treats. Let's just say that she now has the sweetest breath of any dog in the neighborhood because it took three breath treats to get her into the car! And, she took care of her walk herself.......she was tired after getting away, and she was quite happy to come home.
Valentine's Day Shopping Spree!
For those of you who know me well, you know how much I hate shopping. But, yesterday was a good day, even though I've got a bad cold......again! Richard and I had the whole day together without the kids, so that made it a really nice break. We woke up, fed everyone heart pancakes with blueberries, and then went to my mom's house. She watched the kids for us, and we went shopping and to lunch.
We went first to IKEA. We had never been there before, so it was an adventure. We found a bookcase for by my piano, and we bought several magazine holders to hold all the music. We also bought a skillet, a set of plastic bendable cutting boards, 2 bathmats, vases, and some clothes sorters for the kids to use in their closets. Then we went to lunch. I think I will definitely go back to IKEA in the future; they have a lot of practical stuff for really cheap prices.
We ate at a nice restaurant called Cantina Laredo. It was very good, and we had a nice leisurely lunch. Then we went to Nordstrom's to find me some shoes. I found the perfect pair.....black suede pump with a bit of patent croc detail. With my gift card, they were only going to cost me $50, which is more affordable than their original price, for sure. But, of course, they didn't have my size shoe since a million people seem to wear size 8 1/2. They only had two pair in the entire Nordstrom inventory in my size, but the sales person called those stores and they said they didn't have them. So, we went to another store and bought some navy shoes I've been needing. Good news, though. We later looked online and found the original pair of black shoes from another company, and they are going to actually cost me a lot less! God was watching out for me on that purchase, I think! So, I'm really excited! (I never get this excited about shoes, but these were actually very comfortable AND stylish - usually hard to find together!).
After the shoe search, we went to the Container Store and bought a laundry sorter that I've been wanting, and a new trash can. I know that sounds sort of boring, but our dog has learned how to open our old one and get stuff out. I found an entire clump of coffee grounds on the edge of the carpet the other day and had to really scrub to get it out - I never found the filter, so I think she ate it. So, it was worth the trip and the money to get one she couldn't open. It's a nice stainless one that will wipe clean as well!
We eventually picked up the kids and then took them to Panera Bread for dinner - Richard even got to stop by Best Buy and get him a little something as well. We had a good day - except I think I went through a whole box of kleenex in the car and I definitely ran a fever! I'm SO ready to be well!!!!!!! And, the day was so nice that I think I might even like shopping enough to go again soon to spend my other gift cards from Christmas........but still without the kids! ;-)
