Freezing and Fun on the First Day of Fall

For the first day of Fall, it got down into the lower 60s and sprinkled most of the day. I sat in a workshop with the air conditioning running full blast. I'm normally hot natured, but I felt like I was freezing. I almost drove to a store to find something warm to wear.

For something fun, we used the car pan that Beth baught us to make some fun car cupcakes. We enjoyed decorating them this evening.

I know we had more fun than you :-) by Richard

First Day of School!

Well, today was the first day of school. Everything went very well. We got up REALLY early, and we dropped Alyssa off for her first day of daycare/"school." In fact, we were so early, that she was the only one there for a while. But, she went right in like she owned the place, and she made herself at home. She was very excited to be a "schoolgirl" as Jonathan calls her. She likes her teachers, she says, and she had a good day. She even enjoyed her lunch. When I picked her up, you could tell she had played outside, and she looked tired. So, it will be an early bedtime tonight! Yea!

Jonathan had a fabulous first day - much better than last year because he knew more of what to expect, I think. Last year he was upset because they didn't get to play as much as in Pre-K. This year we talked about how First Grade would be less playing than Kindergarten, so he understood going into it. We took his teacher a first day gift, and then Jonathan stayed to sharpen her pencils. He did really well all day, and I was very proud of him. He is truly growing up!
I was proud that when I walked by a few times during the day, he was participating with the class and not wiggling too much. He even sat in large group with everyone rather than in a chair by himself (which he usually did by choice to stay out of trouble). He said he really wants to be the best reader this year, so we're going to work hard to make sure he is the best HE can be, even if he is or is not the best in the class. At lunch today, he enjoyed visiting with his friends - so much that he forgot to eat his sandwich. Oh well, maybe tomorrow he'll remember!
